How does Ram Nam contributre to Spirituality? ........As you think, so you become.

Nama Article - 6th July 2007

Question:

How does the constant repetition of Ram Nam contribute to spirituality? Can you give us an example?

Swami Papa Ramdas:

Ram Nam stands for God. When you repeat God's name constantly your mind will be filled with the thought of God and in course of time you will become God. As you think, so you become. If you constantly think of Him your mind will be merged in Him. So when you repeat Ram Nam, which stands for God, you have got God always in your thought and on your tongue. Gradually you will find that your mind which is so restless becomes calm and serene. The Name will automatically stop and you will have the superconscious experience when you realise God within you and everywhere outside you.

You must have heard of the biblical saying, "Be still and know I am God" . The mind must be perfectly still. So long as the mind is wandering, restless and agitated, you cannot feel the presence of God. In the disturbed waters you cannot see the reflection of your face, but when it is still you see clearly your face reflected. When your mind is still, the light of God shines on you and you become conscious of the existence of God within you. Thereafter you live and have your being in the presence of God. So Ram Nam stands for God and takes you to God.
