Importance of chanting from - The Bible

Nama Article - 28th October 2007

For the word [Name] of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Bible [Hebrews 4:12]

Where does THE Supreme Omnipotent wants to be?!!

Nama article - 26th October 2007

Lord, who is THE Supreme Omnipotent referred as "Swaraat" in our scriptures says to Sage Narada,

नाहं वसामि वैकुण्टे योगि ह्रुदयेरवौ

मत्भक्ताः यत्र गायन्ति तत्र तिष्टामि नारद

nAhaM vasAmi vaikuNTe na yogi hrudayeravau |

matbhaktA: yatra gAyanti tatra tiSTAmi nArada ||

"I do not remain seated in my throne in my Abode (Sri Vaikuntam) nor in the heart of a yogi.

But wherever My devotees sing with most earnest heart; tatra tiSTAmi —I present Myself there. I take My seat and hear their hearty song. I run towards the place where the devotees chant with hearty devotion about Me: that is what really attracts Me most."

Reasoning or Chanting ?? - What Sri Ramakrishna prescribes for ALL?

Nama article - 25th October 2007

Source: The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

Vijay — But the people who reason in the manner of Vedanta also attain Him?

Sri Ramakrishna — Yes, He can also be attained by the path of reason. This is known as Jnana Yoga. The path of reason is very difficult

Such a realization is difficult in Kaliyuga. Howsoever much you may reason, the conviction that I am the body creeps in somehow and shows itself. You may cut the peepal tree now, you may think that you have uprooted it but the very next day in the morning you will see that a new sprout has shot up. The feeling of the body does not leave you. Thus, the Bhakti Yoga is good and easy path in the age of Kali.

I don't want to become sugar, I like to eat it. I never feel like saying, 'I am Brahman.' I say, 'You are my Bhagavan and I Your servant.'

I desire that I shall sing His names and glories. The attitude of the Master and the servant is very good. And see, everybody calls the wave of the Ganga, nobody calls the Ganga of the wave. That 'I am He' is not a good feeling of I-ness. If a person entertains such a feeling of I-ness while retaining the conviction that I am the body, it brings great harm to him; he cannot advance further. He gradually goes down spiritually. He deceives others and he also deceives himself. He cannot understand his own state."

Desire to see God and Mukthi

Nama Article - 23rd October 2007

Devotee:

"When I read or listen to the life histories of Mahans like Mira, Thiagaraja, etc. the desire to see God overtakes me. When I listen to Vedanta, I feel that I should attain Mukti. What should I do?"

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

"The desire to see God is the highest. If we succeed in seeing God, by His Grace, Mukti is also attained at once. Chanting His name ceaselessly is the easiest way to see God."

Opinion of Krishna on essence of Gita

Nama Article - 22nd October 2007

Sankara says that the Gita offered by Krishna speaks Advaita philosophy while Ramanuja says it is Visishtadwaita and Madhwãchãrya calls it Dwaita!

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Why do you try to know the opinion of others regarding the words of the Gita of Krishna?

Know what Krishna means.

The Lord says, "Keep chanting my Divine Name (Nãmasankirtan) and I will take care of the rest."

Meaning

Fie on this great learning and study of scriptures,

Pride, impudence, and self-conceit are its offspring;

Ignorant of ' how ' and ' who ' chants the prayer ceaselessly,

Why not at least recite this simple chant of ' Hare Rama '.

The Goal of All learning

Nama Article - 20th October 2007

The Goal of All learning

On this auspicious day of Saraswati Pooja, let us pray to the Divine Mother of Knowledge to bestow us abundant knowledge and in addition, humility, faith and perseverance. May Goddess Saraswati bless us so that we keep the Mahamantra on our lips every moment of our life.

Today, we present to you an incident from the life history of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu – an incident to show how Mahaprabhu won over the knowledge of a great scholar and taught him the actual lesson to be followed in life.

To secure high percentage of marks - Whats is needed?

Nama Article - 20th October 2007

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji to School children

"To secure high percentage of marks one should develop concentration. Only if you have one-pointed mind can you achieve anything either in worldly or spiritual life. Great scientists like Einstein, Newton had one-pointed mind. They channelised all their energy in one direction and that is the reason for their success in their field. You should listen attentively to what is being taught in class. Swami Vivekananda used to say that it is better to play football than practice meditation, for, at play your whole mind is diverted to the movement of the ball. This deepens your concentration."

Chanting a single Divine Name of the Lord ('eka Nãma') helps the chanter deepen his concentration and also helps in sustaining the chanting for long hours effortlessly.

Practice now or it may be never

Nama Article - 19th October 2007

Source: The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

Practice now or it may be never

"Man becomes pure by repeating the name of God. Therefore one should practise the chanting of God's name. I said to Jadu Mallick's mother: 'In the hour of death you will think only of worldly things-of family, children, executing the will, and so forth. The thought of God will not come to your mind. The way to remember God in the hour of death is to practise, now, the repetition of His name and the chanting of His glories . If one keeps up this practice, then in the hour of death one will repeat the name of God. When the cat pounces upon the bird, the bird only squawks and does not say, 'Rama, Rama, Hare- Krishna'.

Why did he say that one should dance about on the streets (singing the glory of the Lord)?

Nama Article - 18th October 2007

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Why did he say that one should dance about on the streets (singing the glory of the Lord)?

Well! When you go about the streets singing the Name of the Lord those passing by might criticize you, "Oh! Look at this fellow going about shouting Hare Rama! Hare Krishna!" and they would mimic you, 'Hare Rama! Hare Krishna!' Be happy when you hear them.

Their criticism and mimicking should gladden your heart. Why? When they criticize you in this manner they utter the Name of the Lord (Bhagavan Nãma)!
