Meaning

 

One cannot get the full benefit in the present age by observance of sacred vows; under going pilgrimages to various sacred places; or by practicing yoga disciplines and other spiritual performances; or by hearing and discussing discourses on self enquiry.

 

Bhakthi (Chanting the Divine names of God) alone is capable of conferring liberation.

alaM vratairalaM tIrthairalaM yaugairalaM makhai:|

alaM gyanakathAlApairbhaktirekaiva muktidA ||

 

Sloka

 

अलं व्रतैरलं तीर्थैरलं यौगैरलं मखैः।

अलं ज्ञानकथालापैर्भक्तिरेकैव मुक्तिदा ॥
