Srimad Bhagavatham (6:2:46)

 

नातः परं कर्म-निबन्ध-कृन्तनं

मुमुक्षतां तीर्थ-पदानुकीर्तनात्

न यत् पुनः कर्मसु सज्जते मनो

रजस्-तमोभ्यां कलिलं ततो'न्यथा

 

For those seeking liberation there is nothing more efficacious in cutting the root of sin that Chanting the Names of the Lord.

 

No other atonement would remove the latent impressions which would induce the rajasic and tamasic thoughts.
