Chant ‘Rama Năma’! Do not doubt its greatness. Do not read any book, listen to anyone, keep any company that would speak low of this great/glorious Name of the Lord. You will certainly attain peace and joy through the utterance of Rama Năma.

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Someone might question, 'When I do Surya namaskăra I am blessed with a good eyesight, better health, etc. what would I get if I chant Rama Năma?' You will be blessed with all the needs of life. Not only this but also attain a birthless state. In your last hour Bhagavan will take you to His Lotus Feet. Rama Năma is known as 'Tăraka Mantra'. 'Tăraka' means to cross over. This Mantra helps you cross over the disease of birth ('piravi pinni') very easily. Even Lord Siva chants only Rama Năma.

It is said that one who dies in Kăsi (Varanasi/Benares) attains Liberation (Mukti). How? 'Siva bearing the Name Viswanatha here in Kăsi takes each 'jiiva' on death and chants the 'Tăraka Năma' (Rama! Rama!) in its right ear.' So says 'Kăsi Purăna'.

A devotee used to write Rama Năma in a notebook and hold the notebook with all reverence. Seeing him Ramakrishna used to say, 'How I wish I had that kind of a bhakti!' The devotee held the letter 'Ra-ma' as verily Rama Himself. He used to keep the notebook very safely.

Another devotee used to touch everything uttering the Name of the Lord. He held the deep faith that it could cleanse everything. 'Năma' (Name) and 'Nămi' (the one bearing the Name, the Named) are one and the same.

What would I beg (of all)? Chant 'Rama Năma'! Do not doubt its greatness. Do not read any book, listen to anyone, keep any company that would speak low of this great/glorious Name of the Lord. You will certainly attain peace and joy through the utterance of Rama Năma.

If you say, 'I am practicing some other spiritual practice, I follow some other Guru,' well, continue to do it. Yet, keep saying this Rama Năma. It is not contradictory to bhakti. It is not contradictory  to any spiritual practice. I know not if dhyăna or yoga will protect one but all I can say is that this Maha Mantra will certainly bestow the highest state on you. Many a Mahan has performed wonderful things through this Maha Mantra. Man has been blessed with a tongue and a Năma (the Name of the Lord). Then there is no place for fear. You can chant this Rama Năma while bathing, while eating, while walking, while running, while waiting at the bus stop, while traveling, while lying down, while at work. You can utter this Rama Năma even while wearing a chappal.

I 'R E P E A T' - Rama Năma can be chanted anywhere and at any time by ALL. 'IT' will bestow the highest. 'IT' is very simple and pure ('pavitram'). All can follow this practice of uttering Rama Năma

Why is the Divine Name of 'Rama' known as 'Tăraka Mantra'?

Rama Nama is the very essence ('saram') of all Epics, Shastras and the Vedas

One should develop taste for Rama Japa (Rama japa ruchi). 'Taraka Mantra' is Hanuman's 'mata' (religion), Bhagavata 'mata'.

His mother, corrected him saying that, uttering Rama Nama once would do!

Rama Nama can grant all wishes at all times. Rama Nama can relieve you from any difficulty. The supreme Rama Nama could bestow all auspicious things. Let this Rama Nama be hailed everywhere.

Glory of Rama Nama

No one can comprehend the glories of the Divine Name of Rama. All should Chant the Divine Name of Rama.

I lay in a kneeling posture in the cart itself, shocked as I was, repeating RAMA RAMA, the only spiritual prayer I knew, during the rest of my journey

The Divine Name of Lord Rama is the only asset of penniless noble men of the world.

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
