Swami Abhedananda was a great saint who used to love and chant mahamantra all the time. When we (Sri Swamiji) start the lecture, we generally chant 'hare rama… ' and allow the listeners to repeat and then chant the second portion 'Hare Krishna…' for the listeners to repeat after us. Swami Abhedananda never used to do that! Swami Abhedananda, considering 'Hare rama…' as the great mantra used to chant the mantra fully before people can repeat, as mantra should not have a break in repetition! He used to chant the Mahamantra very energetically and divinely! Like Gautama Buddha he had been in family life, but renounced all worldliness for God!

It is believed that Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi initiated him to the Mahamantra chanting. He had been in the hills of podigai and has done rigorous japam and meditation. Like a second sun, this great tejasvi used to go to various places and conduct laksharchanas, Nama sapthaham and Bhagavatha sapthahams.

In his ashram once he did 48 days of continuous Mahamantra keertanam day and night! On the day of completion, mysteriously a healthy tree branch broke and fell creating sound of a thunder. There was actually no attributable reason for the branch to break! In a divine vision, Swamiji saw Hanumanji sitting on the tree branch enjoying the continuous nectarine flow of nama kirtanam and when the akhnada nama culminated, he jumped off from the tree. To express his displeasure at the stoppage of the nectarine mahamantra he broke the branch as he left.

The very next day, swami Abhedananda initiated a nitya akhanda nama of chanting mahamantra 24 hours a day – come rain or shine in the ashram at Trivandrum. For the past about 70 years, all the 365 days, 24 hours mahamantra is being chanted there – no matter what happens in the outer world. There had been floods, rains, momentous social events and so forth! But the eternal mahamantra is always sung incessantly at the ashram!

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
